Most Blue Current charging stations use our smart charging system, also known as load balancing. Charging profiles complement this, allowing for smarter charging.
Currently there are 3 charging profiles:
A fourth profile exists for our customers in Belgium, to better deal with the capacity tariff introduced there.
This functionality is being tested
Over the next few months, we are going to release the loading profiles to our users one by one.
We always start internally. Once charging profiles are technically functional and secure, we invite users to test with us. At that point, the charge point, server and customer dashboard are ready, but the user experience is not yet complete. With the beta test, we want to achieve three things:
- We want to test more combinations of cars and households.
- We are developing our FAQ articles based on your questions.
- We collect wishes and requirements for a new version of the charging profile settings.
Woould you like to help?
Use this form to sign up as a beta tester. Our beta testers will receive an email when we:
- Give you access to the loading profiles.
- Make a new loading profile available to test with.
- Fixed a major problem with a loading profile.
- Or when we start testing related functionality, such as our new app.
What are we working on now?
- “Why isn't my car charging?”
In late Q4-2024, we will add status information to the front page of our customer dashboard, allowing you to see when a charging profile pauses your charging session. - During Q1-2025, the charging profiles will become available in our app.
- We are testing Price-driven charging with colleagues.
- We are testing the algorithm of “Charging on Sun.
Smart Charging, the basics:
Profiles only work when the Smart Charging system is working. It complements the basics:
- We know the maximum power your connection can supply.
- We monitor the consumption in your household.
- If the combination of your home consumption and your charging rate exceeds the maximum, the main fuse may blow.
- To prevent the fuse from blowing, we reduce your charging speed.
This form of Smart Charging always delivers the maximum charging speed possible given your other power consumption.
Charging profiles as a supplement:
We don't always have to deliver the maximum charging speed. If your car is at the charging station long enough, there is a lot of room for more and smarter control. As long as the battery is full enough when you want to leave, you probably don't mind if we try to serve a second purpose with the Smart Charging.
Using charging profiles, we can control this. The charging profile can lower the charging speed, lower than the speed Smart Charging would recommend. Increasing it cannot, because then you get risk of overcharging.
For all profiles, they work best when a car is connected for a long time.
How do you enable the charging profiles?
You can find the profiles by looking up the charge point settings on my.bluecurrent.nl
Here the loading profiles can be found and turned on by flipping the slider.
Currently, a choice must be made. Only one profile can be enabled at a time.
If you want to know how individual profiles work, click on the links above for the specific help articles.
Currently, it is not possible to enable multiple functionalities at the same time.
