Capacity tariff (Belgium)

What is the capacity tariff and how can I manage it?

In Belgium, a capacity tariff is applied.
This means that each month, the highest 15-minute consumption is determined, multiplied by 4, and then the average of all months is taken.

That is your capacity, and you pay a tariff based on that.
The tariff is approximately €50 per kW per year.

Example:

In January, you consume 3.5 kW during a specific 15-minute period. This means you consumed 4 × 3.5 kW = 14 kWh in that hour.

If this was the highest value for that month, the same calculation is done for each month, and then the average is taken.

So:

  • January: 14 kWh
  • February: 12 kWh
  • ...
  • December: 8 kWh

If the average is 10 kWh, you would pay €500 per year for this.

The consumption of an electric vehicle can increase these peaks. To manage this, you can set a maximum through our system. You set this per kWh, and we ensure that the car's consumption does not exceed this limit. However, other household consumption may still exceed the limit, as we have no control over that.
