I want to request a grid upgrade, how do I do it?

Currently, your fuse box is underpowered or is limited to 1 phase, but you would like to request an upgrade so that you can charge faster. How does this work, and what can you do yourself for this?

A grid upgrade consists of converting from 1 phase to 3 phases so that fully electric cars can charge faster. For most households, this means immediately installing a new (smart) electricity meter. A grid upgrade is required when you install a heat pump or an induction cooker.

Do you currently have a single phase car and do you expect to drive this for a couple of years?
Then a grid upgrade might not be advantageous for you, because the amperage per phase will go down and charging speed will suffer as a consequence. bijvoorbeeld van 1x40 ampère naar 3x25. Dan zal een 1 fase auto dus in plaats van 40, 25 ampère kunnen laden.

Process description request

1. Applying for a grid upgrade with the grid operator

Upgrading is requested by the installer after the inspection and is carried out by the grid operator, if you are not sure if this has been done, please contact your installer/grid operator. The waiting time for this varies, but generally it amounts to 3 - 6 months of waiting time. The grid operator usually contacts you a week to two weeks prior to the upgrade by phone.

The installer and Blue Current are not informed of the progress of the process, only the grid operator knows exactly what the schedule is.

2. Installing the charge point

During installation the charge point will be installed on 1 phase temporarily, but the installation will be prepared for 3 phases.

3. Grid upgrade by the grid operator

The grid operator will contact you to plan an appointment. The grid upgrade will take a day at the most. After the upgrade please contact Blue Current, so that we can inform the installer to plan the return visit.

4. Return visit by the installer

Depending on the circumstances, it may be necessary for the installer to return after the upgrade to properly connect the charge point to charge on three phases.
