In the Netherlands, there are different types of power connections, depending on the power your household or business needs. The most common types are:
- 1-phase connection (230V - 1x35A): This is the standard connection for many households. You can often recognize these by a meter box with one main fuse.
- 3-phase connection (400V - 3x25A): This connection is suitable for situations where more power is needed, for example when using an electric hob, charging station or heat pump.
In your meter cupboard you will usually see three main fuses or circuit breakers.
How do I find out which connection I have? There are a few ways you can easily check that:
1. Check your meter box:
- With a 1-phase connection, there is usually one thick electricity cable running into your meter cupboard, and the energy meter says something like "1x 230V".
- With a 3-phase connection, you often see three electricity cables or three main fuses, and the meter says, for example, "3x 230/400V".
2. Check your energy contract or annual statement: Often it is stated here what kind of connection you have.
3. Use an online tool: You can usually log in via the website of your network operator with your address details or meter box number to see which connection you have.
