Why do I have a fixed monthly amount with a dynamic contract and can I adjust it?

Your monthly amount is an advance on your actual energy costs over a whole year. We do this to prevent you from paying a different amount every month, especially since your consumption is often higher in winter than in summer.

At Blue Current Energy, we calculate your monthly amount based on:

1. The consumption that you specify yourself.

2. The best possible estimate of the expected purchase prices, which are the same for all suppliers.

A fixed monthly retainer has several advantages:

1. Even costs all year round
In winter, you use more energy (especially gas). In the summer, you might actually supply power back (for example, with solar panels). By spreading the costs over 12 months, you avoid:

  • A high bill in the winter
  • A low or negative bill in the summer

2. No surprises, but an overview
You pay a predictable amount each month. At the end of the year we settle the bill precisely (you get money back or pay a small difference).

3. Easy budgeting
No worries about changing invoices. More control over your monthly expenses.

In contrast to a fixed contract, which is fixed for six months or more, we work with dynamic rates. This means that we continuously monitor the expected prices to ensure that your monthly amount is as close as possible to your actual costs.

Please note: we do not recommend adjusting your monthly amount: our calculations are based on your actual consumption, seasonality and current market data - and are therefore often much more accurate than a manual estimate, which prevents you from being faced with disappointing surprises.

If you do choose to adjust the amount, please email us.
